My dear mate Alan Midgley, Art Director extraordinaire and card-carrying Yorkshireman, had a reputation for (not always fairly I think) punching people. He rarely took prisoners, always made his feelings known and particularly disliked any interference from, what he called, 'bleedin' bag-carrying suits'.

One day however his shortish intolerance level came to the fore when he had a nasty confrontation with another car on the A4 at Chiswick Flyover.

A typical rush hour contratent began, both drivers got out of their cars and there was a nasty 'scuffle' – and Alan oddly came off second best and was seriously injured.

An agency 'get well' card was needed and the usual, ubiquitous and hardly creative, front cover of Campaign magazine was used (we had a template for its regular use) with the large headline:

MIDGELY STABBED – 72 ACCOUNT EXECS HELD FOR QUESTIONING

Better still, inside the card someone who shall remain anonymous (Bob Gabriel) had written "It couldn't have been anyone from Saatchi's because he was stabbed in the front!"
